Disclaimer: All the Final Fantasy characters in this series of ficlets and/or short stories belong to those talented people at Square/Enix or whatever they are called now.

This is a series of Valentine's Day fics. Not all of them will contain smut, but they all are from the FF8 fandom, and the main pairing is, of course, Irvine and Squall. This will also be generally silly, have sappy moments and will hopefully be fun for you to read and fun for me to write. Enjoy.

This is YAOI - boys with boys, caring, desiring, kissing, hugging, groping…um, yeah…but that’s why you’re reading this, yes?

Book of Love: Voucher 32
By Garden's Gnome

“No, General Caraway, I will not be available this weekend if you come to Balamb Garden…I don’t see why I have to tell you where I’m going to be…I am not running away from you or my responsibilities, I am merely taking a small amount of personal time away from…Yes, I will be spending time with my lover, not that it is any of your business. I will not be available via any communication devices while away so do not try to call me. Any requests you have will have to wait until I come back. Good day.”

Squall punched at the disconnect button on his vid phone and buried his hands in his own hair, pulling it a little in frustration as he growled to himself and pointedly ignored the other presence in the room. Blindly he reached out and hit another button on the phone.

“Tell Irvine to come to my office please,” he said quietly to his secretary. “What do you want Seifer?” he asked the man who was lounging on the chair across from him. “Can you not see that I’m busy?”

“I can see that these couple of days away from your office should start today rather than tomorrow,” the blonde man said.

“If it started today then it wouldn’t be a weekend away. Saturday is tomorrow. Besides, Laguna will be sending the Ragnarok to Winhill to take Irvine and I to Esthar. I’d hate to confuse the pilot by not being there.”

“Sure…whatever you say, Squall.”

“You never answered my question, Seifer. Why did you want to see me?” Squall asked.

“Ah…” Seifer began, a light blush appearing on his cheeks. “Irvine said something about the office and Zell being in charge.”

“Just make sure it’s clean before I get back and everything will be fine.”

“You serious?” Seifer asked. “Do you even know what I’m talking about?”

“Yes, I do. I trust that this office will be spotless upon my return from Esthar. Where the hell is Irvine?”

Seifer watched as Squall pressed some buttons on his desk panel to bring up the security cameras, observing the way the commander became more agitated with each screen that showed no sign of the Galbadian sniper, even going so far as to start grumbling at the absence of his lover. He was about to ask if the brunette wanted him to go look for the cowboy when a hand on his shoulder made him turn.

“What’s up?” Irvine asked the tall blonde, eyes on his blue-eyed lover behind the desk.

“He’s looking for you. Keeps saying something about needing a hug and death to Caraway should he phone again today,” Seifer told the sniper with a shrug as he stepped around him and through the still open door. “I’ll leave you to it.”

After watching the ex-knight leave, Irvine strolled over to the large desk and leaned against it. “Looking for me?”

Squall jumped a little as Irvine spoke to him, not realising his lover had entered the room and thinking that it was Seifer on the other side of the desk.

“Irvine! Where have you been? I needed you here five minutes ago.”

“I was only called five minutes ago,” Irvine told his lover as he came around the desk and pulled the brunette from the chair.

“My point exactly,” Squall said, taking a step towards the cowboy and wrapping his arms around the taller man.

“Hey, what’s up?” Irvine asked softly as Squall buried his face against his chest.

“Just General Caraway,” Squall muttered quietly, sighing as warm arms surrounded him and the scent of his lover filled his senses. “I can’t wait for tomorrow so we can get away for a couple for days. I don’t want to think about being the commander for a while.”

“That is a request I can help with right now.”

Looking up at the sniper’s words, Squall caught a glimpse of hooded lavender eyes before warm lips met his, Irvine leaning him back over the desk as he pressed his tongue into his lover’s mouth. Ignoring the paperweight digging into his shoulder, Squall curled his arms and legs around Irvine’s body and pulled the other man closer, one hand sliding under his vest to stroke over warm skin.

Irvine’s own hands did not remain idle as he slowly kissed Squall, long fingers buried within tousled hair, massaging the brunette’s scalp and neck until he purred quietly.

Gently removing the arms around his neck, Irvine leaned back to admire his mussed up boyfriend. Squall’s cheeks were lightly flushed, his lips wet and slightly swollen from their kiss and his eyes a little glazed over with desire.

“Ah…my work here is done,” Irvine murmured against those wet lips, pleased with the dazed state of his commander.

“No…Irvine,” Squall whispered breathily, trying to pull the cowboy closer again.

“Sorry love, but you have a phone call,” Irvine said standing up and dragging the brunette off the desk, smiling as Squall immediately leaned against him.

“Phone call?” Squall asked distractedly as he pressed his face to the warm skin of Irvine’s neck.

“Yeah, and he isn’t on hold either.”

Squall jumped away from Irvine and almost tripped over his chair as he fell into it. Looking at the vid screen he saw what looked like the Estharian Presidential office and Laguna’s messy desk and the back of his chair.

“We’re decent, Laguna,” Irvine said.

“It’s safe to turn around?”

“Yes, dad, we’re done,” Squall said in a tired voice, blush staining his cheeks crimson as his father turned around and looked at him.

“I know this is probably a dumb question but what do you think you were doing to your office desk?” the older man asked, coughing lightly in embarrassment.

“Irvine was giving me a hug for the latest voucher,” Squall said, looking up as Irvine’s hand landed on his shoulder and squeezed lightly.”

“That was some hug,” Laguna said, grinning widely.

“Nope, that wasn’t a hug. That was a kiss. And I bet your desk has seen just as much action as the one here,” Irvine leered at the long-haired man on the screen, laughing softly as his lover’s father blushed. “Be seeing you tomorrow, Laguna,” Irvine said as he walked towards the door.

“Yes. About tomorrow, Squall…are you listening?”

“He didn’t fulfil the voucher yet…” Squall said quietly, thinking out loud.

“Squall?”

“I’ll call you back, dad,” Squall said, standing and disconnecting the call before his father could say another word.

Hurrying out the door, Squall caught sight of the elevator doors closing and raced to stop them before they shut.

“Little early to be racing about the Garden, love,” Irvine drawled as the hurrying brunette almost bounced off his chest, Irvine’s arms automatically coming around the other man to hold him close.

“I was expecting you to fulfil today’s voucher when you came to the office,” Squall said as he glared up at the cowboy, struggling a little against the arms that held him before collapsing limply against the warm chest.

“You looked so needy and you did say that you didn’t want to think about being commander for a while. I couldn’t resist that kind of request,” Irvine told his lover as he rested his chin on the top of Squall’s head, watching their reflection in the mirrored doors of the elevator.

“You’re so infuriating at times,” Squall mumbled into the fabric of Irvine’s vest.

“But you still love me anyways,” the sniper said softly, arms moving in a slow rubbing motion across Squall’s back and shoulders.

“Yes. You know I do,” the brunette agreed quietly.

“Here now, don’t be going all pouty on me,” Irvine said, lifting Squall’s face to his and rubbing their noses together. “Although I don’t really mind if you do pout, but be warned that watching you pull that face makes me want to suck and nibble at your lips until you smile,” the cowboy added with a grin.

“Irvine, I really don’t have time today,” Squall said, pulling away as Irvine moved in to kiss him. “There are things to be done before we get away for our two days together.”

“Ah yes, our couple of days away…you, me…and the whole of Esthar,” Irvine said, rolling his eyes.

“It will only be dad, Kiros and the cats. Ward will be taking care of things so dad can spend some time with us,” Squall explained, reaching up to hold the other man’s face so that Irvine would look at him.

“Why did there have to be a voucher for a cat of all things?” Irvine asked with a playful whine. “That furball is…”

“Going to be part of our family here at Balamb Garden and you will love it just as much as I will. I saw that box full of toys that somehow mysteriously appeared in the back of the wardrobe after you went to buy a travel cage the other day,” Squall said, smiling. “The cat is going to be very spoilt.”

“Just like you are,” Irvine said, fingers digging into Squall’s sides a little as he tickled his lover.

“Me? Spoilt?” Squall asked, squirming a little at the playful attack. “Hardly. Look at what I have to put up with on a daily basis,” the brunette added, laughing lightly as he managed to get away from Irvine’s tickling fingers.

“You feel better now?” Irvine asked, hands dropping to rest against his sides as he became more serious.

“Yes. Thank you,” Squall said with a gently smile that was only for Irvine.

“All in a days work,” the cowboy said, mock buffing his nails against his vest. “Guess we had better get off the elevator then. Others will want to use it.”

“Yes, they will,” Squall said, reaching for the open button on the control panel.

“About the voucher…” Irvine said, pulling the neatly folded page from his pocket, Love Voucher: A Big Cuddle printed on its plain surface.

“I think that long hug we shared works just fine,” Squall said, smiling as he took the page from his boyfriend, folded it back up and slipped it into a pocket.

“Do you now?” Irvine asked with a sly grin that Squall did not see as the doors slid open.

Squall gasped in surprise as he was picked up and twirled around, shocked faces flashing across his view before he buried his face against the cowboy’s neck, heat spreading across his cheeks and neck even as he tried not to smile at Irvine’s impulsiveness.

“Now you’re definitely better,” the sniper said, grinning down at his lover’s embarrassed and flushed face, smiling even wider as the brunette returned his grin.

“If you pair are quite finished…”

“Yes, Zell, he’s all yours,” Irvine said, pressing a quick kiss to Squall’s still hot cheek and strolling off, whistling happily to himself.

“I’m not going to ask. I don’t want to know,” Zell said as he stepped into the elevator with Squall and hit the button for the third floor.

“Is he always like that?” the tattooed blonde asked after a moment of silence, unable to help his curiosity.

“Irvine? Sometimes,” Squall admitted with a careless shrug.

“Why?” Zell asked.

“I guess he likes to see me smile and will do anything to make that happen,” the brunette said, eyes unfocused and a small smile playing on his lips.

“Even embarrass you?”

“Especially that,” Squall said as the elevator pinged and they headed towards his office.

“Man, you two can be so strange.”

“You have no idea,” Squall said quietly to himself.
