Disclaimer: All the Final Fantasy characters in this series of ficlets and/or short stories belong to those talented people at Square/Enix or whatever they are called now.
This is a series of Valentine's Day fics. Not all of them will contain smut, but they all are from the FF8 fandom, and the main pairing is, of course, Irvine and Squall. This will also be generally silly, have sappy moments and will hopefully be fun for you to read and fun for me to write. Enjoy.
This is YAOI - boys with boys, caring, desiring, kissing, hugging, groping…um, yeah…but that’s why you’re reading this, yes?
Book of Love: Voucher 31
By Garden's Gnome
“C’mon Squall, anything but this,” Irvine pleaded with his lover as they stood in the kitchen.
“You agreed,” the brunette said, hands on slim hips.
“But why today?” the cowboy asked. “We have nothing planned and I was looking forward to spending all day in bed with you.”
“On sheets that need to be washed and with a bathroom full of dirty clothes? No, Irvine. We have to do cleaning up today,” Squall said, turning away from his lover to begin rinsing off their breakfast dishes. “It didn’t get done at the start of the week because I was sick, so you can help me do it now. I promise it won’t take all that long if we both get stuck into it.”
“Fine,” Irvine relented with a sigh. “Where’s the number for the drycleaner?” he asked, picking up the basket near his feet.
“Get a load of washing started before you phone them. Each load usually takes about twenty minutes and it’ll be done but the time they arrive and you get back up here,” Squall said, loading the dishwasher. “And no grumbling. You make it sound as if you’ve never done laundry before.”
I haven’t, Irvine said to himself as he walked to the doors that hid the tiny alcove that housed their washing machine and dryer. Rolling out the mat that would protect the carpet, the cowboy carefully sorted out their washing, the whole time trying not to scratch between his shoulders, his battle trained mind telling he was being watched. When no comment came, Irvine allowed his body to relax a little, knowing Squall would tell him if something wasn’t right. Dumping the first batch of clothing into the tub, Irvine carefully read the instructions of the box of powder and measured out the amount he thought was correct. Soon the machine rumbled to life and Irvine turned to find Squall watching him with a bemused smile.
“There, that wasn’t so bad,” the brunette said, stepping forward and placing a kiss on his lover’s cheek as he placed some money in his hand. “I’ve called the drycleaner. They’ll be here in about ten minutes. Guess I’ll see you shortly.”
“You’re lucky I love you, Squall,” Irvine said with a smile.
“I love you too, Irvine,” Squall smiled back.
Irvine watched Squall wander back into the kitchen and continue his cleaning spree. Picking up their uniforms, the sniper grabbed his hat and headed out the door.
Arriving down at the parking garage, Irvine sighed quietly as he caught sight of a familiar blonde.
“You look henpecked, Irvine,” Seifer said with a wicked grin.
“Don’t. Just don’t,” Irvine said as he leaned against the wall next to the tall blonde.
“Never thought I’d see the day when you would be waiting down here for the drycleaner,” Seifer said with a laugh. “Squall usually asks his secretary to do it for him.”
“Does he now?” Irvine asked.
“Yeah. How come you’re doing it today?”
“Voucher,” Irvine said, pulling the piece of paper Squall had given him earlier along with the laundry basket.
Seifer opened the page and looked at it. Love Voucher: A Turn Washing.
“Remind me never to get one of those books for Zell,” he said as he handed the page back.
“Where is Zell? How are you guys doing at the moment?” Irvine asked, shoving the page back into this pocket.
“About the same since I confessed,” Seifer said with a loud sigh as he ran a hand through his hair. “We kiss, we hold hands and that’s about it. He‘s off testing some adjustments he made to his bike. I‘m waiting for him to get back.”
“And you want more?” Irvine asked, latching onto the reason for Seifer’s obvious frustration.
“I’m a hot blooded teen so what do you think I want? I’ve wanted Zell for a long time and now that he’s agreed to be mine, it is getting harder to wait for him to say he’s ready.”
“Are you waiting for the perfect moment?” Irvine asked.
“I guess I am. How did you approach Squall about this?” the blonde asked.
“I didn’t,” Irvine admitted with a blush. “He came to me.”
“No way! The ice prince started it? This I’ve got to hear.”
“There’s nothing to tell really,” Irvine said with a shrug of his shoulders. “We partied the night away after defeating the sorceress. Quistis was keeping Cid and Matron company; Zell was eating more hotdogs than was good for him; Selphie was running about with my hat and I had the camcorder. Squall and Rinoa were out on the balcony. They kissed. I didn’t hang around after that to see what else happened.”
“You had it bad, huh?” Seifer said, watching his companion closely.
“Yeah, I left the party and returned to my room, telling myself that having feelings for Squall was wrong, he was my commander and that was all. Spent about an hour looking at my still unpacked stuff before Squall arrived, wondering how much time it would take to get back to Galbadia. He came with a bottle of something, claiming that we hadn’t toasted our victory together. We shared a drink, straight from the bottle, and then he kissed me and didn‘t stop. I was too shocked to do anything but kiss him back and when I managed to gather my wits, he had me on my back on the bed and was sitting on my lap staring down at me. He looked as surprised as I was.”
“Damn, never thought Squall had it in him,” Seifer said with a big grin. “What then?”
“Nothing really. We talked about Rinoa and how the kiss they shared was more like kissing a sibling. Then we finished the bottle Squall had brought with him and passed out.”
“You didn’t get it on?” Seifer asked, surprised.
“Nope, that came the next morning,” Irvine said with a grin. “But I’ll admit it wasn’t easy in the beginning. I kept waiting for Rinoa to come back and try to claim Squall. And then he was looking for you, Rai and Fuu and I thought he might want you and I was only something to keep him warm at night until then.”
“Squall and I have never been interested in each other that way,” Seifer said quietly.
“I only recently found that out,” Irvine admitted, turning his face away from the green-eyed man.
The drycleaner arrived then, stopping Seifer from asking his next question. Irvine handed over the clothing and took the receipt, noting that the clothes would be back later that afternoon. He watched the van go and turned to the blonde beside him.
“Look, Seifer, I can’t tell you when and where to seduce Zell. That is something to figure out yourself,” Irvine said seriously. “If the right moment comes while in the elevator, then you hit the stop button and love him. If it’s in his room at the end of a long day, you do it. If it’s in Squall’s office while we’re away, you do it then too. Just remember to take your time and be ready to stop if he says to. Perfect moments are all well and good and are worth the time it takes to prepare them,” Irvine said, fondly remembering the ‘bonk’ voucher, “but you‘ll find that spontaneity works better. Be prepared at all times.”
“You’re serious about the office?” Seifer asked, eyes wide and voice full of disbelief as he listened to the cowboy‘s advice.
“Yes. Squall says just make sure you put everything back where you found it,” Irvine said with a smile as he left a stunned Seifer behind and strolled back into the Garden.
