Disclaimer: All the Final Fantasy characters in this series of ficlets and/or short stories belong to those talented people at Square/Enix or whatever they are called now.
This is a series of Valentine's Day fics. Not all of them will contain smut, but they all are from the FF8 fandom, and the main pairing is, of course, Irvine and Squall. This will also be generally silly, have sappy moments and will hopefully be fun for you to read and fun for me to write. Enjoy.
This is YAOI - boys with boys, caring, desiring, kissing, hugging, groping…um, yeah…but that’s why you’re reading this, yes?
Book of Love: Voucher 23
By Garden's Gnome
Irvine stretched sleepily as he felt his lover leave the bed, rolling over into the place Squall had just left and burying his face into the pillow. One eye slitted open as his face came into contact with a piece of paper that crackled noisily against his skin. Irvine slid the page from under his head and fought to focus his eyes to read the words. Lover Voucher: A Kiss and a Cuddle. Irvine smiled as he heard the bathroom door close and water begin. His lover was getting good at leaving the vouchers around for him to find. Rolling onto his back, the Galbadian looked at the clock beside him and huffed out a breath. He’d have to get up soon as well.
When Squall exited the shower minutes later, Irvine hadn’t moved much beyond sitting up in the bed, sheet and blanket pooled about his lean hips, the voucher now on the bedside table. He admired his lover’s body as Squall wandered from the bathroom door wearing only a pair of boxer shorts and droplets of water as he towelled his hair dry. Irvine’s eyes narrowed at the brunette’s unbalanced gait.
“You’re limping,” he said quietly but still loud enough for Squall to hear.
“You’re favouring your right leg,” Irvine said, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and motioning for his lover to approach.
“Irvine, I don’t have time for this. So what if I’m limping a little,” Squall said but still came to the bed.
“Do you hurt anywhere?” Irvine asked, long fingers prodding the brunette’s right leg.
“There,” Squall said with a hiss as the sniper’s fingers came into contact with the skin on the back of his right leg just below his bottom.
Peeling down his lover’s shorts, Irvine echoed his hiss at the large black and blue mark there. “I told you to put something on this last night,” he said as he crawled off the bed and went to the bathroom for the medical kit. “Stay there,” he ordered.
“I was tired and was practically asleep after our shower,” Squall said as he tried to see the bruise.
“It’s a very deep bruise and you probably pulled some muscles too,” Irvine said as he returned from the bathroom.
“What are you going to put on it?” Squall asked as Irvine opened the kit and rummaged through it.
“Well, can’t have the commander limping about Garden. Someone might think I’m abusing you,” Irvine said as he found the potion he was looking for and closed the kit.
“I don’t think we need to go that far,” Squall said as he saw the potion. “I only slipped and fell.”
“You were running to get away from me. You slipped on the whipped cream that we had been spraying around. You tried to stop your fall but instead landed on a bench the wrong way. And now you are going to stand still and let me rub some of this potion into it and you are not going to argue.”
Squall shivered a little at his lover’s commanding tone. He hadn’t realised that the fall had caused this much damage. A smile came to his lips as he remembered the previous night. He and Irvine had raided the cafeteria for two extra cans of whipped cream, going to the quad after curfew to have their ‘food fight’. He’d been running away from his lover when he’d slipped on a rather large pile of cream and had gone skidding towards a bench. Unfortunately, as he now realised, he’d been going a little too fast to land safely.
“Well, get on with it,” Squall said impatiently. “Selphie leaves soon for Galbadia and I want to be there when she heads out.”
“Yes, love,” Irvine said as he opened the potion and took a sip.
Squall jumped as he felt lips move over the bruise, followed by the rasp of Irvine’s tongue over the damaged skin. He would have turned if not for the cowboy’s hands coming up to hold him still. Each stroke of Irvine’s tongue across his skin was followed by the healing tingle of the potion as it was applied in a slow and sensuous fashion. Squall’s hands rested on top of his lover’s, moving a little each time Irvine touched his skin. Soon the tingling faded and Irvine placed one last kiss to Squall’s flesh.
“How does that feel?” he asked as he placed the potion back into the kit and clicked the lid closed.
Turning around, Squall stretched a little, moving his leg this way and that before walking around the bedroom. Neither of them could detect a limp.
“Feels good,” the brunette said as he returned to his lover’s side.
“Great. Now I have to go for a shower and you have to finish getting ready,” Irvine said, standing up from the bed and moving towards the bathroom.
“But…” Squall said, surprised.
Irvine stopped mid-step and turned back to his lover, drawing the slighter man into his arms and holding him tight. Squall stood there for a moment and then brought his arms up to hold the sniper close.
“I didn’t expect you to fulfil the voucher so soon,” he said against the Galbadian’s shoulder.
“Couldn’t help myself,” Irvine said, resting his cheek on the top of Squall’s head.
For a few minutes they stood next to the bed, enjoying the other’s warmth. The loud beeping of Irvine’s clock caused them to finally draw apart, Irvine grabbing Squall’s hands as the brunette went to finish getting dressed.
“I could give you more during the day if you’d like,” Irvine offered as he rubbed his thumb over the back of the brunette’s hand.
Squall nodded. “I’d like that,” he said softly as he leaned up to place a light kiss on Irvine’s lips. “Now go have your shower,” Squall ordered as he lightly smacked his lover’s bottom and pushed Irvine into the bathroom, his boyfriend’s laughter following him as he went to make coffee.
To be continued…
